What is Suilend?

Suilend is a decentralized lending and borrowing protocol operating natively on the Sui network. Developed by the team behind Solend, a prominent money market on the Solana blockchain, Suilend brings established DeFi expertise to the growing Sui ecosystem. The protocol allows users to participate in two primary ways: supplying assets and borrowing assets. Users can supply cryptocurrencies such as SUI, USDC, USDT, and wETH to liquidity pools and earn a variable yield based on supply and demand. This process contributes to the overall liquidity of the platform. Conversely, users can borrow assets from these pools by first providing other supported assets as collateral. The system is designed around over-collateralization, meaning a borrower must lock up collateral with a value greater than the value of the loan. This mechanism is a core component of risk management in decentralized lending. The protocol defines specific risk parameters for each asset, including Loan-to-Value (LTV) ratios, which determine the maximum borrowing power for a given collateral type. If the value of a user's collateral falls below a certain threshold, a liquidation process can be triggered to ensure the solvency of the protocol and protect suppliers' funds. As a foundational piece of financial infrastructure on Sui, Suilend aims to enhance capital efficiency across the network. It provides a crucial service for users looking to earn interest on their holdings or access liquidity without selling their assets. By leveraging the specific architecture of the Sui blockchain, Suilend is positioned to offer a platform for core DeFi activities within its native environment.
