What is SushiSwap?

Sushi, often referred to as SushiSwap, is a decentralized exchange (DEX) that utilizes an automated market maker (AMM) model to facilitate crypto trading. Initially launched as a fork of Uniswap, it has since developed into a broader decentralized finance (DeFi) ecosystem. The platform enables users to swap a diverse range of digital assets directly from their personal wallets, eliminating the need for a centralized custodian. This process is powered by liquidity pools, where users can deposit pairs of tokens to become liquidity providers. In exchange for supplying assets and enabling trades, these providers earn a percentage of the transaction fees from swaps conducted within their pool. The native utility and governance token of the platform is SUSHI. Holders of the SUSHI token can participate in the protocol's governance by voting on proposals that shape the future of the project. Additionally, SUSHI can be staked in the protocol to receive xSUSHI, which grants the holder a claim on a portion of the trading fees collected by the exchange, creating a passive income stream for stakers. The Sushi ecosystem has expanded beyond its core DEX functionality. Its product suite includes BentoBox, a vault that allows deposited assets to generate yield from flash loans and other strategies. Built on top of BentoBox is Kashi, a lending and borrowing platform that features isolated risk markets, meaning the risk of one asset pair does not affect others. Sushi also offers MISO (Minimal Initial SushiSwap Offering), a launchpad designed to help new crypto projects launch their tokens to the public. To enhance accessibility and reduce transaction costs associated with the Ethereum mainnet, Sushi has deployed its platform across numerous blockchains and Layer 2 solutions, including Polygon, Arbitrum, and Avalanche, making it a multi-chain DeFi hub.
