FAQ’s

What is Monero?

Monero is a decentralized cryptocurrency known for its anonymity and untraceability. It is a currency that places a strong emphasis on security, with an official slogan of “secure, private, untraceable.” It is known to have been forked from Bytecoin (BCN).

Unlike other coins, it provides strong anonymity through a mining algorithm called CryptoNight, developed by the Cryptonote project. Cryptonote implements ring signatures, a system that prevents others from identifying the parties involved in a transaction.

Coin Features

1. Monero implements anonymity using three methods: ring signatures, one-time keys (stealth addresses), and RingCT. Ring signatures mix the sender's payment key with publicly accessible keys on the blockchain, creating a ring of potential users' keys, making it impossible for outsiders to pinpoint the transaction's sender. Since all users visible in the ring are plausible participants in the transaction, outsiders cannot single out the actual sender. Additionally, a one-time address is generated for each transaction, accessible only to the sender, so even the recipient cannot trace who sent the coins. While protecting the sender's identity, RingCT technology also ensures the transaction amount remains confidential.

2. Monero's official supply is set at 18,400,000 XMR, but the total issuance is not limited thereafter. Once the total supply is reached, 0.3 XMR will be issued every 2 minutes (per block) under the name "tail emission." This system exists to provide people with an additional incentive to maintain the blockchain beyond fees, even after mining rewards have ended.

Core Values

(Keywords: Anonymity, Convenience)

1. Anonymity: Monero's transactions are private by default through ring signatures and one-time addresses. For transactions that need to be disclosed or audited, the view key feature allows selective disclosure of transaction information.

2. Convenience: You can use My Monero to run Monero directly in your web browser without any installation, or install Monero to access more services and features.
